As the stars align, the time grows nearer, and The Old Ones prepare for their return to Earth. Only one man can save us - Arcturus Waite, The Knightgaunt.
The Dreamers
There are two kinds of people in the world. Those that exist in the mundane world, leading mundane lives, worrying about bills, relationships, work.
Then there are The Dreamers; artists, musicians, creative people who are attuned to the Shadows, the otherworldly darkness that surrounds our dimension, threatening to spill through at any moment. When the barriers grow thin, these people create. Terrifying visions, sounds, words. They are the advance warning, a psychic smoke alarm foretelling a supernatural fire.
The Necronomicon Foundation
The Foundation as we know it today was created in the 1940s, a watchdog organization built around the strongest Dreamer to date – H.P. Lovecraft. Lovecraft turned his dreams into weird fiction in the early 20th century and unconsciously foretold the return of The Old Ones in the new millennium. Although not completely accurate, his stories have served as a loose “bible” for the members of The Foundation, and any new signs and events are cross-referenced with his works.
The Knightgaunt Armor
Although not much is known about the origins of the armor, it is believed to have been created in an alternate dimension to be worn as a harbinger of The Old Ones return. The armor bonds to its wearer for life, and its powers can only be fully realized by the host body.
In the late 1920s it was worn by Ephraim Waite when he terrorized Arkham, MA and attempted to summon Yog-Sototh. That attempt was foiled by what would become The Necronomicon Foundation fifteen years later, and the armor was believed lost with Waite’s death. In the early 1970s, the armor was discovered by eight year-old Arcturus Waite, who donned the helm, unwittingly making himself the latest Knightgaunt host.
Arcturus wore the armor to defeat the minions of The Old Ones in the late 1980s, but walked away from The Foundation when he was forced to kill his own sister, Asenath, who he learned was a priest of Yog-Sototh.
Now, as the barriers between dimensions grow thin again, The Foundation has come looking for the Knightgaunt armor, and Arcturus finds himself caught between the call to adventure and the horrors from beyond.
